Menakjubkan! Nik Wallenda sang Pria AS dengan Seutas Tali Seberangi Air Terjun Niagara

Nik Wallenda menjadi pria pertama yang sukses melintasi air terjun Niagara di atas seutas tali dalam jangka waktu 116 tahun terakhir. Pria yang dijuluki 'daredevil' ini juga berhasil mencatatkan rekor sebagai manusia pertama yang berhasil 'menyeberang' air terjun ini dari sisi New York, AS ke sisi Ontario, Kanada.

Aksi menegangkan Wallenda ini disaksikan oleh puluhan ribu orang yang berkumpul di sekitar kawasan Niagara. Aksi ini juga disiarkan secara langsung oleh stasiun televisi AS, ABC.

Pada Jumat (15/6), sekitar pukul 22.00 waktu setempat, Wallenda yang berkaos merah ini berjalan di atas seutas tali sepanjang 600 meter yang dibentangkan tepat di atas air terjun Niagara yang tercatat sebagai air terjun terbesar di kawasan Amerika Utara ini. Terdapat sebuah sambungan radio dua arah melalui sebuah earphone yang terpasang pada tubuh Wallenda, sehingga dia bisa tetap berkomunikasi dengan sang ayah, Terry Troffer.

"Ya Tuhan, sangat luar biasa, benar-benar menakjubkan, saya merasa sangat baik. Ini benar-benar persoalan fisik, tidak hanya mental, tapi juga fisik," ucap Wallenda kepada ayahnya, sesaat setelah memulai aksinya, seperti dilansir oleh AFP, Sabtu (16/6/2012).

"Melawan hembusan angin tidaklah mudah. Aku merasakan tanganku mati rasa," imbuhnya. Sang ayah berusaha memberikan semangat kepada Wallenda ketika putranya tersebut beraksi.

Para penonton yang terdiri atas beragam usia pun berteriak menyemangati Wallenda. "Ayo Nik! Ayo Nik!" teriak mereka. Melihat tanggapan penonton yang heboh, Wallenda sempat melakukan aksi 'nekat' yang menghebohkan kerumunan penonton. Ketika hendak mencapai ujung tali, Wallenda sedikit berlutut dan kemudian melambai ke arah penonton.

Dengan bantuan sebuah tongkat penyeimbang, Wallenda berhasil menyeberang ke sisi Kanada dalam waktu sekitar 30 menit. Percikan air dan hembusan angin yang kencang mengiringi aksi Wallenda, namun tidak menghalanginya untuk melintas dengan sukses.

Begitu mencapai ujung tali yang terpasang di sisi wilayah Ontario, Kanada, Wallenda segera memeluk keluarganya yang telah menunggu dan kemudian menelepon neneknya untuk memberi kabar baik. Wallenda sebelumnya berjanji akan segera menelepon sang nenek yang tidak bisa ikut hadir, begitu dia selesai beraksi.

Saat diwawancarai oleh reporter ABC usai beraksi, Wallenda menyatakan niatnya untuk kembali melakukan aksi serupa di Grand Canyon.

Diketahui bahwa Wallenda memiliki latar belakang penampil sirkus dan ahli akrobat terkenal di AS. Keluarga Wallenda yang telah dikenal publik AS sejak tahun 1978 ini, diketahui sering melakukan aksi-aksi stunt menakjubkan yang melibatkan ketinggian. Aksi-aksi mereka ini pernah ditayangkan dalam serial TV terkenal yang berjudul 'The Great Wallendas'.
